Tall vs wide · 4 minute guide
Tall or wide? Start with the wall.
Drawer count alone cannot tell you how a cabinet uses your room.
Compare the footprint before the count
A tall cabinet and a two-column cabinet can both have six drawers. Put width and depth side by side first, then consider height. The six-drawer STORKLINTA articles in our directory illustrate this distinction; each has its own source and dimensions.
Consider the whole daily route
A narrow cabinet can leave more wall available, while a wide cabinet may put frequently used drawers lower down. Check where you stand, how doors move and whether the top height suits the way you will use the room. Neither shape is automatically the more usable choice.
Look inside, not just up
List the items you intend to store. Measure a representative folded stack or organizer and compare it with verified internal width and depth. Cabinet volume, exterior dimensions and drawer count describe different things. None proves your particular organizer will fit.
Keep anchoring in the plan
Height is not a safety rating. Follow the exact manufacturer’s wall-attachment instructions for either format, and use the CPSC Anchor It resource linked below. Furniture shape should not be used to infer that anchoring is unnecessary.
